  • Before a treatment, all make-up, oils, sunscreens and other skin products must be removed. Ideally you should do this prior to coming into the clinic

  • Lasers can cause eye injury so we provide protective eyewear to be worn during the treatment
  • The laser is swept across the tattoo. Some say it feels similar to getting a tattoo
  • The treatment can take 15-30 mins depending on the size of your tattoo

Yes. Shaving 24hrs before the treatment will help the skin be less sensitive to the treatment. Shaving immediately before the treatment can be very sensitive during the treatment.

Each treatment session can take between 15-30 this depends on the size of the tattoo.

A minimum of 6 weeks (8 weeks for darker skin) between treatments is required as this allows enough time for your body’s immune system to eliminate the ink. Having the treatments too close together can lead to permanent damage of the skin. For best results we recommend waiting 3 months between treatments.

Yes. Some people describe it as being as painful as getting a tattoo and some describe it as a rubber band snapping. Removing a small tattoo is just as painful as larger tattoos – this is because you are shattering the ink in the tattoo this does not relate to the size – the larger tattoo just takes longer to remove therefore pain for longer. But everybody’s pain threshold is different. You should take paracetamol before the tattoo removal treatment we can apply numbing cream prior to removing the tattoo, but for best results it is best not to use it.

You can take a couple of paracetamol before the treatment as this can make the treatment as close to painless as possible. Avoid Aspirin and Ibuprofen as this can bruising after the treatment.

Keep your immune system healthy for better clearance

Increase you water intake to flush out your lymphatic system.

Wear appreciate clothing depending on where the tattoo was removed to avoid rubbing

Avoid touching it

Keep the area clean

Wash the treatment area gently with soap and water. Do not soak.

Do not shave the treated area if crusting is evident.

  • Redness, tenderness, swelling and itching (resolves within 24 to 48hrs)
  • Blistering (usually appear within 24hr of treatment. Sometimes the blisters are very large and may look alarming – this is completely normal). Do not be alarmed by blisters, but do protect the area and apply an ointment for at least 24 hours after the blisters have popped.

There are many factors to consider for a tattoo to be fully removed:

Skin colour. Darker skin patients may have to wait longer in between treatments due to higher levels of melanin in the skin.

Patients who are fit and have a strong immune system will tend to see results earlier.

Smokers and heavy drinkers may have a compromised immune system.

Where the tattoo is situated can make a difference on removing the tattoo. Tattoos above the chest are likely to be fully removed due to better circulation. Tattoos below the chest can take longer to remove due to poorer circulation as they are further away from the heart.

Tattoos may be layered such as cover ups

Type of ink colour used can determine how long it takes

Professional tattoo artist uses different blends of colour and deeply deposit ink into the dermis (deeper layer of skin) that can make them harder to remove.

Amateur tattoos are carbon-based and single coloured and are placed more superficially which are easily removed.

In some case it hard to completely remove the tattoo due to the factors above

It can take 1 to 2 years to get to completely remove tattoo depending on its size and make up.

Picosecond Lasers can remove black, blue green, red, orange, purple and yellow inked tattoos.

Tattoo removal can cost can vary depending on the size and time it takes to remove the tattoo. Refer to our section on pricing.

The ink is absorbed by your kidney, liver and lymph nodes and then the ink particles are then excreted when you perspire, urinate and poop. This will be colourless and unnoticeable.

It is unlikely but possible. When the ink is removed it is absorbed into your lymphatic system. If there is a high quantity of ink particles in your system, this could lead to you feeling sick or even fainting and feeling unwell. To help avoid this, it is best to treat larger tattoos, which have a lot of ink in them, in smaller sessions a few weeks apart. We would recommend drinking plenty of water before and increasing your water intake after the treatment to flush out the lymphatic system and taking liver cleansers.

The procedure has potential benefits and risks and results may vary with each individual and in rare cases the desired results may not be reached. It is impossible to predict how you will respond to the treatment and how many sessions may be required due to unknown factors such as underlying medical conditions and lifestyle factors.
